Join local basketry artist Melissa Cornacchia to discover a time honoured craft rooted in land, tradition and building with your hands.
Starting with a pre-made pine base and natural rattan reed, Melissa will guide us through preparing materials for use, weaving and shaping a basket, adding texture and simple decorative details to a complete basket. With the opportunity to make creative and curious choices along the way, there is plenty of room for each basket to become its own.
This day is an invitation to slow down, work with our hands, build confidence through real skill, and experience the quiet satisfaction of making something from start to finish.
Basketry offers a beautiful way to connect people, place, and practical skill.
We will also try our hand at weaving on a larger scale in nature. With branches, sticks and stakes will use our creativity and curiosity to create a small wall/fence.
We will have time to enjoy the space at Wild Child, build community and learn a new skill.
All materials are provided, including instructions, and you will take home your finished basket!
NOTE: Basketry requires a little more sustained attention, hand strength, coordination and patience. As such, this day is geared for children age 8 and up.
